That soft closure began in the Jefferson School District on Wednesday, March 18, and since that time, our educators and staff have worked hard to provide students the best possible remote learning and digital instruction we can offer. We recognize the challenge this has placed on you and your children and we will continue to do our best to help students prosper. There are certainly many logistical matters to take care of before the end of the school year and we will get specific information to you, through your building principal, as soon as possible regarding end-of-year procedures, including graduation. These are incredibly unstable and trying times, and we thank you for your ongoing efforts to help us provide an education for your children. Warmest regards, Chad Martin Superintendent Rigby High School Senior Information Dear Parent and Graduate: Congratulations to you and your graduate! We hope that your son/daughter has found his/her high school experience rewarding. With all of the rumors and questions about graduation, please give me a few moments to dispel any inaccuracies. Please share the following items with your graduate: I have listed the activities in chronological order for you. Due to the current Covid-19 situation these dates are subject to change. May 18-21, 2020 Senior lock check-in and locker checks. We will only allow about 20 students at a time to ensure we are following Social Distancing guidelines. May 20, 2020 Grades from coursework done outside of RHS ( this includes all online and JSDOE classes ) must be turned in on this day. May 20, 2020 Any obligations of fees, parking tickets, credit, attendance or discipline must be reconciled by 4:00 p.m. for a senior to be considered “in good standing” and thereby allowed to participate in the graduation exercises. May 20, 2020 Student speakers need to clear their speeches with Mr. Parkes by 3:00 PM. May 20-21, 2020 Senior final exams will be held on these dates. May 29, 2020 We’re all sympathetic for the Class of 2020 and there is room for all immediate families of graduates (one vehicle each) and some staff at the Motor Vu drive-in theatre which hasn’t been used for almost 4 years. The graduation ceremony begins promptly at 9:30 p.m. Motor-Vu Drive-in theatre – 2095 N Yellowstone Hwy in Idaho Falls. A hybrid form of graduation will take place involving previously recorded/in-person components. It would last about 70 minutes due to the size of our graduating class. Gates will open at 8:15 PM. Here are some of the important details: At the gate Student Council members will distribute to families in their cars, custom labeled bags, diploma covers, a graduation program and a family graduation ticket to be shown as they enter the Motor Vu drive-in. SROs, Sherriff’s Deputies, and high school administrators will use red-coned flashlights to quickly get everyone (one-car-per-family) parked in an organized manner by 9:30 pm. These ‘supervisors’ will also circulate around the drive-in to promote attendees staying in their vehicles. Students and their families must stay in their cars at all times, unless needing to use one of 8 reserved Porta Potties strategically located with hand-sanitizer and sinks at each. In the event attendees do not follow the rules as listed here they will be escorted from the theatre by the Sherriff’s deputies and will not be allowed to re-enter. Signs will also be posted on the exterior to remain at least 6 feet away from anyone else in line. The pre-recorded speakers and slide show, along with all audio/visual projections (including Pomp and Circumstance playing both as cars are arriving and later as cars exit) will be provided by Voltstar Productions in Idaho Falls. All audio will be through each car’s FM radio as it is transmitted locally. As graduating Seniors’ name is read over the sound system, the slide of that Senior’s cap/gown picture in their school’s yearbook will be projected for 5 seconds. After each Senior’s picture is shown, a brief student-produced video will be shown that explains the traditional ending to guide each Senior simultaneously moving their cap’s tassel from one side to the other indicating they have graduated. There will be a 6 minute Fireworks show at the end of the ceremony. SROs, Deputies, and Administration will execute an orderly exit of cars using 4 possible lanes. On June 1 st from 9:00-12:00 near the school’s West Main Entrance, Josten’s agreed to set up and execute a system to accept the loaner gowns to be put into large boxes and students will receive their real diplomas just like has been past practice. Voltstar Productions is also partnering with Rigby High School to do a Live Stream of graduation from the Motor Vu for extended family and friends to view. Bell Photography will take pictures of the event to produce a small memory book of this ‘unique’ event that graduates may purchase online that would be shipped to their address. This represents an opportunity for parents and Rigby High to come together and support the Class of 2020 who are already going to miss so many key traditions of their Senior Year. Idaho Health and Welfare Guidance on Location (currently): Drive-in Theatres Question : Are drive-in theaters and drive ins allowed to be used for graduations? Answer: Yes, as long as Social Distancing Requirements are followed at all times. Participants should avoid leaving the vehicle, vehicle occupants should be limited to household members, and common facilities such as, concessions and restrooms should be avoided.
